AFT Missouri hosted state senators and representatives at the Jefferson City office on February 20th. Thanks to all members who attended and educated the legislators on our issues.

Local 420 members gathered with concerned parents and students of the St Louis Public School System on February 15th after the State Board of Education voted to support a resolution allowing a three person transitional board superceding the voter-elected Board of Education in the district. Mary Armstrong, Local 420 Preisdent led the rally and other speakers included AFT Missouri President Scott Ciafullo, Senator Maida Coleman, Representative Craig Bland, Representative Jamilah Nasheed, and several activities and concerned citizens of St Louis.

People for Public Schools gathered in St Louis to protest the December 15th meeting of the Committee on School Choice.

On Friday, October 13, 2006, AFT Missouri held its annual Fall Conference in Kansas City, MO. The first evening features the annual Solidarity Reception and Foundation Silent Auction. AFT Missouri held its annual Fall Conference October 13-14 at the Embassy Suites Plaza Hotel in Kansas City. The Fall Conference is the union’s professional development conference featuring speakers, workshops and networking opportunities. This year, the president of the American Federation of Teachers, Edward J. McElroy, served as the 2006 keynote speaker. Other speakers included former Missouri governor, Roger Wilson. The pictures provided are from the Friday evening Solidarity Reception and AFT Missouri Foundation Silent Auction as well as events scheduled throughout the day on Saturday, October 14. The Missouri Progressive Vote Coalition held its annual awards dinner on September 29, 2006 at the St. Louis Convention Center. ProVote honored state Rep. Barbara Fraser as the outstanding progressive legislator; Give Missourians a Raise as the outstanding progressive labor organization; Joan Suarez with the progressive lifetime achievement award; and People for Public Schools as the outstanding community organization award. U.S. Senate candidate Claire McCaskill raised over $1 million thanks to the help of former president Bill Clinton at a St. Louis fund raiser. McCaskill is Missouri's State Auditor and has received the endorsement of the American Federation of Teachers for her support for public education and labor policies. AFT Missouri is a proud member of the People for Public Schools coalition. The purpose of PPS is to oppose tuition tax credit "voucher" legislation. The coalition sponsored a booth at the 2006 Missouri State Fair. Here are some pictures from that event which took place August 10-20.

July 17-23, 2006, members participated as delegates and participants at the 2006 convention of the American Federation of Teachers and the annual AFT Communicators Newtork (AFTCN). These meetings took place in Boston, MA.

AFT Missouri held its annual convention at the Hilton Garden Inn in Columbia, MO. Delegates gathered to elect officers, amend the state federation's constitution, and approve the annual budget.
